It’s time for your child to begin and/or continue the Confirmation process. This process which includes catechetical studies, an active worship and prayer life, spiritual mentoring with parents, sponsors, pastors, and teachers, and Christian service in the church and community, involves public school 6th, 7th, and 8th graders, and 7th and 8th grade day school students. Confirmation is more than just learning facts and information and doing some memorizing. It is a time for maturing in the faith, a time for developing a close personal relationship with Jesus Christ and walking with Him each day. This year, Vicar Rob Donaldson will be teaching the 8th grade public school class, and Alan Lull will teach a combined 6th and 7th grade class. In the Day School, Vicar Rob will be teaching the 7th grade, and Pastor Hoehner will be the primary 8th grade teacher. (Vicar Rob and Pastor Hoehner will switch in January with Vicar Rob teaching the 8th grade, and Pastor Hoehner teaching the 7th grade.) Jim Hardt (7th) and Jim Wegner (8th) will teach two hours each week in the area of Biblical studies. Classes for day school will begin on Thursday, August 30. Public school classes will begin on Wednesday, September 5th from 4:00 PM to 5:45 PM and continue every Wednesday, through April 9, 2008.
Please Note! This year, in addition to weekly catechetical studies, all 8th grade confirmation students (Public School and Day School) will attend Confirmation Class on Sunday mornings, 9:30am to 10:30am, from January 6 though March 9 (10 weeks). In order to enroll in this confirmation class, students will have demonstrated their commitment to Christ by their regular worship attendance, participation in our catechetical classes, Christian character, and the completion of the confirmation covenant.
The 2008 Confirmation Service is currently scheduled for Sunday (Palm Sunday), March 16, 2008, at 1:30pm. (Confirmation rehearsal and reception – Wednesday, March 12. First Communion – Maundy Thursday, March 20 with families, with Holy Communion offered at 3:30pm and 6:00pm.)
We instructors have set aside the following meeting times to talk with parents in order that all of us might be on the same page in regard to the upcoming year.
* Wednesday, August 22nd, 7:00 - 8:00 PM
* Sunday, August 26th, 7:00 - 8:00 PM
The presence of at least one parent (preferably both) at one of the meetings is extremely important in order that your child might remain enrolled in the confirmation program. The two options were chosen in order to provide a choice because we know your schedule is busy. Meetings will take place in the fellowship hall(church basement). No childcare will be provided. The meeting is intended for parents only. (If you cannot attend either meeting, please speak to Pastor Hoehner. He will be glad to meet with you privately.)
Please read Deuteronomy 6:1-9. Confirmation instruction is intended to assist parents in their responsibility of raising their children in the Lord. We’ll do the very best we can, but we need your help. The best way for your child to grow in the Lord is for you to help by reviewing their confirmation instruction and homework with them and to model faithfulness in your life choices.
