 Frequent Q & A

Q. How does Scrip reduce tuition?
St. John’s School buys scrip from the Great Lakes Scrip Center at a discount and re-sells the cards or certificates to you for the face value. The income from the discount will be used to offset tuition or it may be used to support the Scrip Program.

Q. Do we have to sell anything?

The reason for the effectiveness of scrip is simple: families generate revenue through the purchases that they would normally make. Relatives, friends and neighbors may buy scrip and designate the credit the family of their choice or to the school. But unlike other fundraising programs, scrip families do not have to “sell” anything.

Q. When can we purchase Scrip?

Scrip sales take place all year. You may purchase scrip on Fridays from 7:45 a.m.-8:15 a.m., and 2:45 p.m.-3:15 p.m. and on Sundays from 9:00 a.m.-9:20 a.m. during the school year. During the summer, Scrip will be sold only on Sundays from 9:00 a.m.-9:20 a.m.  All sales take place in the hallway outside the school office.

Q. How much can we buy?

There are no minimum purchase requirements. However, if you are interested in making a large purchase (generally, an amount over $200) of any SINGLE retailer, we ask that you pre-order, if possible. You may pre-order as much as you like and we ask that you pre-pay at that time. There is no limit set for your total order. There are a few exceptions as to what can be pre-ordered; for example, Kohls and Fleet Farm may not be pre-ordered.

Q. Can I use scrip to pay department store charge account balances?

A few retailers allow you to pay charge account balances with scrip, such as Kohls and J.C. Penney, but generally speaking, most do not.

Q. Can we use Scrip to offset my tuition at Living Word Lutheran High School?

Yes. Scrip can offset tuition charges at both St. John’s and Living Word. If you have students here at St. John’s and Living Word, the credit is first applied toward your tuition at St. John’s.

Q. How do I know what my Scrip credit is?

You will be notified of your credit three times during the year. Living Word will receive payment for tuition credit at the same time. If you have a credit toward Living Word tuition, you will receive a statement indicating the credit on your account from Living Word.  Credits earned January 1-April 30 will be applied May 15. Credits earned May 1-August 31 will be applied September 15. Credits earned September 1-December 31 will be applied January 15.

Q. How do we purchase Scrip that is not kept on hand?

You may pre-order most Scrip that we do not keep on inventory. During the school year, any pre-order placed by Sunday should be available by Friday. During the summer, any pre-order placed by Sunday should be available by the following Sunday.  We ask that you pre-pay your pre-order at the time you place the order. However, we cannot guarantee that your order will arrive on time so we recommend that you plan ahead.

Q. How do we know what other retailers participate in Scrip?

To find more information on Scrip and to get a full listing of participating retailers, you can go on-line www.glscrip.com

If the internet is not available to you, we keep an updated list in the school office.
