A Week of Connections Parties

What could be better leading up to the start of a brand new school year than hanging out with your friends and eating pizza, or subs, or chicken, or brats? Depending on what class you were about to start, our St. John’s Connections Ministry team leaders, Cheryl Rudolf and Alan Lull, hosted Connections Parties for students and their families in each pair of grades from Kindergarten through 8th Grade.

Each night this week, fulfilling our mission of Connecting, Caring, and Sharing in Christ, students and families, as well as several invited congregational leaders enjoyed connecting through conversations, a meal, and an oftentimes hilarious “get to know your new teacher” trivia session where we found out little known facts about our incredible teachers.

Teachers, staff, students, and parents then ventured to classrooms so students could organize their school supplies, find their new desks, and see who they will sit next to. Parents and teachers also had the opportunity to have more one-on-one conversations and learn a little more about what to expect in the coming year. Following their classroom visit, families enjoyed conversations while children played at Sonshine Community Park.

With a student body of nearly 200 students, we are blessed to connect with many new-to-St. John’s families and help them feel welcome to our school and church family. The highlight of these nights was watching the faces of the children light up as they met their teachers and reconnected with their friends. As our school year theme reflects our mission, we are “Called to Follow Him” by Connecting, Caring, and Sharing in Christ – mission accomplished!
