Who is My Father?
No one connected to Jesus should be lonely or lacking work. Why? You have family: more mothers, brothers, sisters, and dads than you can count. Jesus redefines family. “Here are my mother and brothers! Whoever does God’s will is my brother and sister and mother.” (3: 35) Since nobody does God’s will better than God’s Pleasing Son (1: 11), in essence Jesus makes the bold claim that His family are those who depend upon Him for direction and salvation. It’s understandable that it took a while for Jesus’ biological family to quit saying He was out of His mind. Crazy sounding for sure but good news too! “But when the time had fully come, God sent his Son, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, that we might receive the full rights of sons.” No wonder, Jesus, when asked how to pray, taught his followers to say, “Our Father…”
