Did you hear? The Annual St. John’s Trunk N’ Treat is coming TOMORROW NIGHT. Are you ready to dress up? Have you picked out your car’s outfit (best Dressed Car get’s a prize – be creative)? TNT begins at 6:30 PM in the School Gymnasium. Don’t forget to park your car in the parking lot, dress it up, and get your bucket of candy ready by 6:10 PM so that our judges may cast their votes (you don’t need to decorate your car in order to pass out candy).
What could be more fun than spending a Wednesday night at school? Most of us dread “more school,” but what if reading and math were made fun? Would you spend an evening at school then? Would you come dressed in your best pirate costume?
Parents and children, ages K3-grade 3, are invited to experience the joys of reading and math during our Family Literacy and Math Night. Rotate through classroom stations to learn family games to promote literacy and math. Enjoy an evening of fellowship and fun and meet the staff and families of St. John’s Educational Ministries.
Join us on October 18 from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM and find out what all the excitement is about.
Youth Night –
Pastor David and his wife invite our young adults from grades 8-12 to join them at their home on October 20 from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM for a night of coming together. We’re going to have fun, food, and a chance to be God’s people in a relaxed place.
Save the Date! Come to the School Gymnasium any time after 11:30 AM on November 12 for a Packer Party and fundraiser for the 7th and 8th Grade 2018 trip to Washington D.C. Wear your packer gear and cheer loud enough to drown out Pastor Dorth’s Bear’s cheers.
Back by popular demand is the Pie-in-the-teachers face raffle. Stay tuned for more information.
Save the Date for Couple’s Retreat
The Couple’s Retreat Committee is working hard to finalize all the plans for the 2018 Couple’s Retreat in Door County. Make sure you pencil February 9-11, 2018 in your calendar for a time to grow together in Christ. It is a weekend you won’t want to miss.
What did your activities of discipleship look like when you were young, or were there any? What role did your parents have in your faith formation? What impact are you having in the discipleship of your household now?
Whether we reference our own childhood discipleship stories or our hopes and plans for the discipleship of the next generation, we need to remember that since the dawn of time God has used the home in powerful ways to form disciples.Read the stories in this week’s scripture.See the impact that God’s gift of faith has; received by one person and then shared and lived in the family. The joys and struggles of being called by and following Christ are best strengthened when they are experienced as family and formed in the home.
Breakout Sessions Have Begun!
Discipleship Hour continues in October and November with seven unique breakout sessions designed to equip you with the tools to Connect, Share, and Care in Christ. You can sign up here, or get a form from an usher and turn it in to the church office. Even though they have already started, it is not to late to sign up.
Stewardship and Gifting
IRA Rollover Charitable Opportunities
In December of 2015, Congress passed the Path Act which made the IRA rollover to charities permanent! Donors over age 70½ may now plan each year to make transfers directly from an IRA to a charity.
It is quite common for IRA owners to take a single distribution of their RMD (required minimum distribution) in the fourth quarter (October thru December). Have you ever considered making a charitable gift using your RMD? If you do not need the income, by choosing a charity, you could significantly reduce your adjusted gross income and make your tax returns less complicated.
If you have questions regarding this opportunity to support the ministries of St. John’s through your IRA, please contact Craig Toerpe, Director of Stewardship & Gifting at 262-334-4901 or firstname.lastname@example.org .
A Legacy Letter
Writing your Legacy Letter is a way of documenting your generosity through Christian estate planning. Sharing with your loved ones “why your faith walk” was so important is a fundamental key to transferring faith values.
Contact Craig Toerpe, Director of Stewardship & Gifting to answer questions regarding “legacy letters,” or other questions you may have regarding your Lifetime Stewardship Plan at 262-334-4901 or email@example.com.
Join us for the 14th Annual 7th & 8th Grade Girl’s Volleyball Tournament on October 20-21 and cheer on the girls to victory. There are seven other schools who have been invited to our tournament: Our Redeemer-Wauwatosa, St. Francis Cabrini, St. John’s-Mayville, Trinity-Freistadt, Hales Corners, Holy Trinity-Kewaskum, and St. Paul’s-Grafton.
This is a great opportunity to welcome these schools to our campus and “Connect, Care, and Share in Christ.” There are also a number of opportunities to volunteer and support our sports programs with your time and talents throughout during the tournament weekend.
