The partnership between St. John’s West Bend and Lutheran Hour Ministries is alive and well. The latest expression of this ministry partnership is an online course that featured a number of our people, titled “Reaching Out in Rural America.” That course is now live at lhm.org/learn. LHM publishes a wide variety of discipleship resources that strengthen our ministry in many ways. Before you click over to check out this great course and the wonderful testimonies from our people, hear from the course designer, Chris Macky, about his experience at St. John’s and the blessings of our ministry partnership together.
St. John’s has been blessed to host Tony Cook for Spiritual Conversations, Jason Broge for a retreat experience on Households of Faith, and now yourself and the video team for this course. What was your experience of the partnership between LHM and St. John’s? What did you take away from meeting some of our people?
St. John’s is a warm community of highly committed Christians who desire to reach their friends, family, and neighbors with the Gospel of Christ. We met and interviewed some of these exceptional people for our newest course, Reaching Out in Rural America, and they provided excellent ideas and testimonies of God’s work in and through them to others.
Give us an overview of the LHM Learn courses. How has this addition of LHM tools expanded the reach of your mission? How many categories and courses are available? What is the goal and focus of these courses moving forward?
Every LHM Learn course is free and available to anyone in the world with an internet connection. The 35 courses cover 5 diverse categories of Christian faith development: Outreach Essentials, Christian Foundations, Cultural Concepts, Everyday Insights, and Spiritual Reflections. The goal of LHM Learn is to equip lay people to grow in their faith and share the Gospel. Learners can easily register and take courses in their own time and the comfort of their homes. And church leaders can access courses for small groups and classes as well. Over 6,000 learners have registered on LHM Learn to date.
Why have a course on “Reaching Out in Rural America?” How can communities and congregations who are on the border of rural living be blessed by this content?
If you live in or near a rural area, and you care about your neighbors, this course is designed with you in mind. Simply stated, this course explores relational outreach in rural America, and it will equip you to establish or grow a close, caring friendship with a person living in a rural setting. The authors and contributors of this course know Christ and they know rural America really well, and at the end of this course, you will too. It will inform, inspire, and challenge people who live in or near rural areas to reach out to their neighbors in an effective, relational way.
Go to lhm.org/learn to access all the online courses, and check out “Reaching Out in Rural America.”
