God has been gathering and leading His people in worship since the dawn of creation. Seemingly limitless allowances of styles, sounds, and liturgies have been assembled to bring thanks, praise, and honor to our God. He has given us the tools of music and creativity, in coordination with the means of His Grace, to be gathered, forgiven, strengthened, and sent.
Saturday 6:00pm- Traditional
Sunday 8:00am- Traditional
Sunday 9:30am- Blended
Sunday 11:00am- Contemporary
Wednesday 6:00pm- Blended
All of our worship services utilize a common order and liturgy from the Divine Service and other thematic elements. Holy Communion is celebrated on the first, third, and fifth weekends of the month. Traditional service music is led on an organ with occasional choir and wind ensemble accompaniment. Contemporary service music is led by a band and vocal team. Blended service music uses both the organ and the band distinctly.
St. John’s Worship Ministry provides tremendous opportunities no matter what your gifts or interests are. Please see the listings below for ways to be involved in His services. Altar Guild - The altar guild at St. John’s is a group of men and women who sign up on a rotating schedule to assist the church with a variety of worship preparations. They work primarily to assist with communion preparations. They also help to decorate the church specifically at Christmas and Easter.
Usher Teams - Our usher teams are a vital part of the worship life at St. John’s serving in both areas of hospitality and within the logistics of worship services. Men and women alike serve on rotating teams to provide assistance at each of the five worshiping communities of St. John’s. They greet each of our worshipers and provide assistance for guests and visitors throughout the worship services.
Lay Readers – Our lay readers assist in worship services by participating in the Old or New Testament readings. This is more than a public reading opportunity, but rather a time for members to spend time in God’s scriptures in both personal and family discipleship. Readers are scheduled and participate in single services, within their preferred service community and time.
St. John’s Choir - The St. John’s choir is a non-audition group that helps to lead our traditional and blended worshipers through congregational songs and choir anthems. They sing primarily for the Saturday and Sunday traditional worship services but occasionally provide music for the entire range of Sunday morning services. They play a large role in providing special music for the Christmas Concert, Christmas Eve, Holy Week, Easter, and on Ascension Day. This group rehearses every Thursday from 6:30-8:15pm from September through May.
Handbell Choir - Our handbell choir is a seasonal group that provides special music for the Christmas Concert, Holy Week, and Easter. Each season brings new members of varying skill levels to the group; some members have been ringing bells for years and some have never touched a bell before coming to the first rehearsal. The group rehearses on Thursdays from 5:30-7:00pm for approximately 8-10 weeks in the Fall leading up to the Christmas Concert and 8-10 weeks in the Spring leading up to Holy Week and Easter. Both groups are then invited back to ring a piece from each season at the Ascension service in May.
Wind Ensemble - The wind ensemble is a group of musicians that rehearse seasonally to enhance the traditional worship services during the Christmas and Easter seasons. They act primarily as accompaniment for congregational singing, but also play special music. Solos and duets are also encouraged throughout the year.
Contemporary Worship Teams - The contemporary worship teams serve the weekly blended and contemporary worship communities year round on a rotating schedule. It is made up of groups of instrumentalists and vocalists that lead the congregation in song during worship and that also provide special music during the Christmas and Easter seasons. The contemporary bands include Drums, Percussion, Piano, Keyboard and Acoustic, Electric, and Bass Guitar. Vocal group members are encouraged to have some singing or choir experienced, but not required. Both groups rehearse together on a rotating basis each Thursday from 6:30-8:30pm.
AUDIO & VIDEO
Sound Mixing - Our sound mixing teams rotate through all of the Saturday and Sunday worship services. Each service has different needs including assistance for the pastors and readers microphones, choirs, and worship teams, and videos used within services. This team also offers their support at our Sunday Discipleship Hour at 9:25am in the school gymnasium to help with microphones and video sound. Participation can be scheduled within an individuals preferred worship community and time.
Computer & Projection - The computer and projection teams rotate through all of the worship services at St. John’s to run the service programs on the screen. Some of the team members also help with the creation of the service programs during the week.
Graphic Design - Our congregation is blessed with members gifted in graphic design. These men and women help to create our worship service backgrounds, as well as special imagery used to promote St. John’s events in worship, i.e. the St. John’s Auction, retreat ministries, VBS, etc.
Video Editing & Production - The video teams at St. John’s help us to record many of our worship services for community television, record Discipleship Hour for our YouTube site, and help us shoot and edit footage for video promotions for our retreat ministries and other St. John’s functions.
